The Writing Blurbs of a Krys

Jan. 14th, 2027 10:45 pm Fall to Ruin - The Collective

Every time I finish a chapter, it'll be posted up here, in order, so you all don't have to search amongst any other posts I might make to find them - thus, you can expect this particular post to be updated quite a few times. Mmmmyep. I'll also state the progress of each chapter, that way you know when I'm actually working on it, and when I'm just being a total laze. XD Most of the chapters have already been planned out completely, and I know exactly which way I want to go with them. However, others are a bit more difficult because they deal with important aspects of the characters, which I intend to keep intact while still making for a believable story.

Meanwhile, for a little bit more info on the actual story as a whole, as well as other examples of my writing, you can see my first post here.

Fall to Ruin
Now complete!

Chapter One - In which a schedule goes awry
Chapter Two - In which aliens seem to laugh
Chapter Three - In which no notable tactic is employed
Chapter Four - In which an Invader runs screaming
Chapter Five - In which Zim assures himself otherwise
Chapter Six - In which certain skills might be useful
Chapter Seven - In which Zim is not-so-stealthy
Chapter Eight - In which Dib's nerves are frazzled
Chapter Nine - In which Zim hits like a girl
Chapter Ten - In which squealy larva is rescued
Chapter Eleven - In which awkwardness is avoided
Chapter Twelve - In which differences are set aside
Chapter Thirteen - In which a promise is made
Chapter Fourteen - In which there is much walking
Chapter Fifteen - In which some ransacking occurs
Chapter Sixteen - In which there's no problem
Chapter Seventeen - In which something improbable happens
Chapter Eighteen - In which Dib is quite dramatic
Chapter Nineteen - In which a baby is coddled
Chapter Twenty - In which there is Hope

Iiiiit's finished! Whoo!

AND NOW FOR THE SEQUEL, WHOO

Note: Said sequel will be a variation of ZADR. One that is not actually very romantic at all. Because romance is very out of character for Zim and Dib, yes indeedy. You can view the status below - now that the prologue is more or less complete, I will be doing something similar to when FtR was still in the works, by waiting until I finish two or more chapters before starting to upload them.

Picking up the Pieces

Prologue - In which a plot continues
Chapter One - In which space varies (Writing - 6% complete)
Chapter Two - In which a crisis is averted (Planned)
Chapter Three - In which something terrible happens (Planned)
Chapter Four - In which there is uncomfortable wriggling (Somewhat planned - thinking on characterization and wording)
Chapter Five - In which paranoia runs rampant (Planned)
Chapter Six - In which awkwardness isn't avoided (Somewhat planned - thinking on character exchanges)
Chapter Seven - In which some time passes (Planned)
Chapter Eight - In which psychological warfare ensues (Somewhat planned - thinking on characterization, wording, and sequence of events)
Chapter Nine - In which Dib is thick-headed (Somewhat planned - thinking on character exchanges)
Chapter Ten - In which self-control is exhibited (Planned)
Chapter Eleven - In which self-control implodes (Somewhat planned - thinking on sequence of events, character exchanges, and wording)
Chapter Twelve - In which there is a position (Planned)
Chapter Thirteen - In which a mob assembles (Planned)
Chapter Fourteen - In which chance encounters matter (Somewhat planned - thinking about wording and characterization, and especially character exchanges)
Chapter Fifteen - In which scoldings are well-meant (Vaguely planned - thinking about...just about everything)
Chapter Sixteen - In which a baby is worth more (Planned)
Chapter Seventeen - In which barriers are broken (Mostly planned - thinking on character exchanges)
Chapter Eighteen - In which matters aren't discussed (Planned)
Chapter Nineteen - In which offers are shot down (Mostly planned)
Chapter Twenty - In which Zim agrees (Somewhat planned - thinking on characterization and character exchanges)
Chapter Twenty-One - In which peace is attained (Planned)
Chapter Twenty-Two - In which Dib experiments (Mostly planned - thinking on wording and character exchanges)
Chapter Twenty-Three - In which snack purchases reveal the truth (Planned)
Chapter Twenty-Four - In which something important slips (Planned)
Chapter Twenty-Five - In which everything is perfect (Planned)
Chapter Twenty-Six - In which everything goes to hell (Planned)
Chapter Twenty-Seven - In which space battles aren't epic (Planned)
Chapter Twenty-Eight - In which humans hold worth (Mostly planned - thinking on wording)
Chapter Twenty-Nine - In which turmoil reigns (Planned)
Chapter Thirty - In which there is acceptance (Somewhat planned - thinking on how to wrap it up)

This story will be rather longer than Fall to Ruin, as it takes place over a much broader span of time. A few months to possibly over a year, in fact. So of course, unlike Fall to Ruin, not every detail of that time will be written out - just what matters most, or whatever is most interesting or amusing. But, yes, it is definitely going to be 30 chapters long. It doesn't seem like that much more, perhaps, but I also intend to write longer chapters. Most of FtR's chapters were actually pretty short, looking back on them...

There are quite possibly going to be further continuations after Picking up the Pieces; here's some vague details~!

Sharing and Caring - A short ficlet taking place between PutP and its prospective sequel, approximately four years after the former ends. Not necessarily 'canon' to the story, however. It revolves around the finer points of Zim and Dib's 'relationship', and will be meant for mature readers only. ;] Before anyone shouts, 'Hey, Irkens don't have reproductive organs in the FtR universe!', just know that there are ways around that. And I made use of one...because I am a strange, strange individual. 8D

From Ground Zero - Takes place six years after PutP, and involves a good deal of stress on Zim's 'family'. Saying any more than that would be spoilery, though. ;]

Things Left Uncoded - Takes place a century after FGZ concludes, but does not focus on Zim or Dib at all, though they will appear briefly, while Hope will play a somewhat important role (and yes, it will also be explained how they are still alive after so long). The main characters are a trio of Irken slaves, and the two Irkens who appeared in the prologue of PutP will also have a large role in the story. Revolves mainly around loyalty, friendship, and extremely platonic 'romance'. Music will be very important in the story, but not a major focus.

Finally, I have written up an essay on the workings of the Irken race in this continuity! Read it here~

ALSO! You can now find any and all art for Fall to Ruin and its continuations in this post here: Splatter of Arts~

Next up is a roleplay that came into being purely for the sake of fun, but seeing as it DOES go off of the Fall to Ruin continuity, I decided to post it up here! Hope you enjoy reading it as much as Emi and I enjoy making it!

Hope and Mystery Funtiemz! (Proper title pending.)

Part One - Meet n' Greet
Part Two - Pickle Hunt
Part Three - Dinner Guests
Part Four - Gay Aliens
Likely more to come as Emi and I roleplay it out.

NEW! A prompt for 'Singularity' has been written involving Hope and Mystery, as well as (of course) Zim and Dib. And, as it takes place in the Fall to Ruin continuity, here it is! It may or may not be canon, and may or may not include spoilers, but rest assured that it definitely takes place some time after whatever might happen in 'From Ground Zero'.

AND THAT'S ALL FOR NOW!

SINGULARITY

'An immense collection of writings, all of which have collapsed into a single super-dense mass.'

This is possibly the most massive undertaking I've ever dropped on myself. It involves several prompt lists all smushed into one giant...thing, but with the same general idea as a regular prompt list.  I take the given word and write stuff for it.  But I'm not sticking to sentences or a paragraph, oh no, but rather actual ficlets, or drabbles, or short stories, what have you.

I can tell you right now that it will probably never actually be finished, seeing as there are in fact 600 prompts altogether, but...it's still more stuff for you all to read, so go on and read 'em!  Or not, you know.  Whichever.

Notes:  Genres and ratings vary, of course.  There will, unsurprisingly, be the occasional bit of ZADR, whether misinterpreted to be so, intentionally hinted at, or just plain blatant.  However, most prompts will stick to either their usual enmity, or a kind of amity.

Going to take a break after 100. Need some time to work on other projects. The 'Fall to Ruin' arc hasn't been getting any attention. XD;

Any prompt that contains something I find questionable will get a warning at the beginning.  Anything you find to be questionable, let me know, and I'll decide whether it warrants a warning.

Constructive criticism is always appreciated, as is any pointing out of my spelling or grammar weirderies.  Note that some weirderies, like the one I used just now, are entirely intentional, and I also occasionally use improper grammar to add emphasis to something.  ...Yeah, that's right.  I use bad grammar to make things sound cooler.  I said it.  Some grammar farts, however, are completely accidental, and if you're not sure about it, just ask me, and I'll let you know if I meant it that way or not.

Although, given that Zim's not actually an Invader and clearly has really low-quality stuff, maybe the base wouldn't self-destruct if he died... ...Ah well, I guess Dib doesn't need to know that. :D

Okay, I'll admit that it was never implicitly stated that a base would self-destruct upon its master's demise, but I'm fairly certain that it would. After all, Irkens probably (read: definitely) wouldn't want their technology falling into enemy hands. And, as Zim once said: LEAVE NO EVIDENCE!

Again, I stick to my belief that Zim and Dib would be terrible parents. Also, finally got to use 'drunk' Zim. :D

Note: 'Keeska', as has been mentioned before, is what I use as the ancient Irken word for 'caretaker'. It is also, thanks to Zim, the word that Hope was (or will be) taught in place of 'mother'.

Why, yes, I did study all the times they allied to write this prompt, thank you for asking. And, yes, Dib really is always the first one to backstab, no matter how minor said backstabbing is. It might be justified, considering that Zim's trying to destroy the planet and all, but still, it's just a little bit messed up. (Also, perhaps Dib's not as perfect for being a paladin as I thought he was in prompt 42. XD)

I went through two different versions of this. One was written on very little sleep, and (though I thought it brilliant at the time) was absolutely retarded. This version, though similar in some aspects (and wording I still liked and absolutely had to work in somehow), is much better and makes a bit more sense.

The original version can be found here.

Warning: The inclusion of yet another something that probably shouldn't be put anywhere near Invader Zim, but was anyway because the author has no life, decency, or shame. :D

Note that the play version of Sweeney Todd's character is rather different from the one in the recent movie; he wasn't originally such an enormous sulk-machine. The George Hearn version, I think, is the best; generally friendly and good-humored, which makes what he does even more disturbing. :D

Fics that feature Zim committing suicide are kind of bizarre to me; depression (and especially moping) is one thing when it comes to him, but I just can't see him giving up that completely. He's too stubborn and self-assured. Even in 'The Trial', when he was going to be deactivated and was under the (correct) impression that everyone hated him, he was still very much clinging to life.

This has been 'Attempting to Write Zim Being Vaguely Serious' with Krys, costarring a surprise cameo of 'And Religion Was There Too, I Guess'. Stay tuned for the next prompt, which will also have a religious theme because it's titled 'God', and what the hell else would I write for with something like that?

It's strange, but whenever I think of a Christian priest, I get the image of a tall man who is very kind and constantly speaks in a way that makes him seem very wise. This is probably because I have little experience with them, being agnostic, and the only priest I've ever spoken to was exactly like that. xD;

I distinctly remember getting a little bit of extra credit in some class when I went to one of my school's plays; I'm not sure if that's a widespread thing, though.

My original idea for this prompt was a lot more complicated, and involved the PAK's inner workings when it came to regulating emotions. It wouldn't come out how I wanted it to, though, and was (obviously) taking far too long, so instead you guys get Zim and Dib being vaguely angsty while watching a skool play of Peter Pan. :D
